ACHASTA LADIES CLUB, A BRIEF HISTORY

The Achasta Ladies Club, previously Birch River Ladies Club, began in 2000 as a social club to promote social interaction in our community. It has always had a charitable component to the organization. The Monday night dinners for the girls at Rainbow Children’s Home was the first of our community outreach.

When Reynold’s bought our community in 2008, they had the desire to be the primary organizer of social and educational events in the community. The ALC board decided to pursue becoming a 501c3 organization. We wanted to continue to be a part of our community and to give back to the area we now call home.

Reynolds had a logo for all their communities “The Way Life Ought to Be”. For most people living in Achasta that is exactly how life is. We realized we live in an area of Georgia that has some of the greatest needs. We won approval with the government by showing them all the community outreach we were already doing. We made a commitment to the government that all our activities will continue to have a charitable component.

We also have continued to be good neighbors by welcoming every new resident with a visit and welcoming gift.  We host a “Know Your Neighbor” event every summer/fall that is open to all residents so we can meet our neighbors and keep in touch.  We are also providing the community with the only directory of our community. We have a sunshine committee that sends cards to our fellow residents for surgeries or illnesses we are aware of.

Our signature charity is “Dollar for Scholars” which provides scholarships to attend Lanier Tech for Lumpkin County residents. We also continue to provide meals to Rainbow Children’s home every Monday, 52 weeks a year. We have a community outreach that provides socks, underwear, coats or other items requested by the local schools. We meet at the end of the year and distribute funds to many other  Lumpkin County organizations that are primarily Female and Family based groups.

We are so appreciative of the generosity of the people who live in Achasta. Not only to us but to other churches and organizations in the area. We are a truly blessed and giving community that makes a real impact in our community.

If you have not joined our organization please consider doing so!
